Who am I?

I’m David - Dave to those who know me well. I’ve been working in business for over 10 years, for companies including Barclays, HSBC, Unilever, and FDM, and I’ve been working with Microsoft Excel since well before any of that. I’ve built a lot of automated reporting (using a mixture of macros and formulas) and I’ve always impressed with the results.

I want to be as friendly and approachable as possible. If you have questions, I’ll answer them, and do my best to help you understand the answer as well. No question is a stupid one - you need to know what you’re getting just as much as I need to know what to give you!

I will also strive to understand what it is you need; not necessarily just what you’re directly asking for. I will work with you so I can better understand and know your goals, so that I can work with you to provide a solution that you’ll be truly satisfied with. Everything I have ever built has the end-user in mind; I’d far rather keep the coding and formulas complex if it means that the user has the smoothest experience.

My skills aren’t just technical though. I love solving problems and finding creative solutions to those problems. The result of two conflicting business objectives in an early role led to me developing an entirely new mathematical model to solve that problem. If you’re looking to optimise cash flow in your business, I may be able to help.

 Why start this company up?

Since early on in my career, I have been working through mental health issues, which stemmed from an early role in which I was taught that I would “always make mistakes”, and “could never get anything right first time”. This, for a long time, drove me to impossible perfectionism, always trying to make sure that everything I did was mistake free.

This year, I took ownership of those negative labels, and turned them into a positive. I want to start this company with the unique acknowledgement that no consultant or business would ever dare to start with; I will make mistakes. I will not always get everything right first time. And that’s fine, because everybody else you would work with will be exactly the same. The difference is that I admit it. Because I know I make mistakes, I can take ownership of them, and I can always fix them, and leave you with the best solution that will last you the longest term.

My promise to you is that I will always be open, honest, and work with you to smooth out any niggles and problems. I won’t be satisfied until you are. I won’t consider anything a perfectly delivered project until you are happy with the result. And I won’t charge you for fixing it if it’s wrong.
